Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education – to benefit from teacher –led school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an inpidual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. Two state laws - one dealing with compulsory attendance, the other with the attendance for course credit – are of special interest to students and parents. They are listed in the LISD handbook under Compulsory School Attendance Laws and Attendance for Class Credit or Final Grade.

Absent Notes

Within two (2) days of returning from an absence, a student shall provide a note that describes the reason for absence. The student’s parent or guardian shall sign the note.
The note should include the following information:
1. Full legal name of student,
2. Student's ID number and grade written on the note or on the medical document,
3. Date(s) of absence
4. Reason for absence
5. Parent signature and phone number.
***Medical documentation can take the place of the parent note.

Parent checkout does not take the place of parent note. A parent note or proper documentation is still required when checking out a student and signing out through the front office.

Reminder:

Students must always sign in and out at the attendance window.

You may FAX medical notes or signed notes to 512-570-1984

If a student is more than ten (10) minutes late to class, the student will receive an absence for that class period.

You will start accumulating hours if you miss more than 4 times in one class period (with the exception of absences covered by medical/dental note (partial day absence), Court note, or a campus visit note from the university/college.

Each absence over 4 in one class period is equal to 1.5 hours. Student will need to make up these hours.
It is the student’s responsibility to check if they owe hours. Hours owed list is posted on bulletin board next to the attendance window and is updated throughout the year.

Attendance Matters

TXCONNECT PROGRAM - TRACK ATTENDANCE AND GRADES

Leander ISD has a useful tool to help parents and students track their attendance along with grades. The txConnect program allows parents an opportunity to view this information online. The txConnect link can be found on every page of the District website www.leanderisd.org under the "Quick Links" section. In addition, parents will be notified when their child is absent through the District’s communication system. As a parent of a student in Leander ISD, you are already a part of the communication system, so there is no need to subscribe.

If you need to correct your contact information in the Parent Link system, please contact your child’s campus registrar with the updated information.

BE AWARE--ABSENCES MAY AFFECT EXEMPTIONS AND ELIGIBILITY TO RECEIVE VOE FORM!
